There are long forgotten places in this county that time has past by. But there are places that still remain today like, Marcus, Leadpoint, Northport, Addy, where history has stood still, and in these places the mood of old lingers on.
These were the days when mining was king. True the Columbia is not the river it once was over a half century ago. Much of its old charm vanished forever when the Grand Coulee Dam tamed this historic river, and flooded historic places like, Old Marcus, the original site of Fort Colville, the placer gold bars, and ancient Indian encampments.
But this is a land where time moves on, where the mining echoes of yesteryear can almost be heard, and the chances of striking it rich are still in the thoughts of many who visit this county.
